I am in love....

I am in love with a new blog!!!

I don't have much time to do a big post about this so you're going to have to check it out for yourselves.........

Let me introduce Knock Off Wood

If you are anything like me, every month you drool over the new Pottery Barn catalog and dream about the days when you will be able to afford ANYTHING on your wish list. Well, dream no more....this website shares how-to plans to "knock off" those pieces of furniture you fantasize about.

The best part is that Ana shows step-by-step instructions along with diagrams to assist you along the way. I'm fully convinced that I'm going to take on one of these projects (after the wedding, of course)

Ana even has a facebook fan page. Check it out.

My favorite part of the website is the Brag Board. It is here that she features projects from her readers....Knowing that real people like you and me were able to successfully attempt these projects makes me wanna run to the hardware store for supplies.

Here are a few projects from the Brag Board:

Narrow Cabinet w/ Hutch
Hyde Table
Farmhouse Bed w/ Arch
Now go check it out and be inspired!!

DIY Wine Glass Candle Lampshades

Update: DIY attempt was a success. See my pics at www.amysallows.com

Fiance and I were just talking the other night that we need some “fillers” for the tables and we would like to somehow utilize candles for that romatic feel. I found this DIY Tutorial today to make these and I think this just might be what we were looking for.

Valentines Day Movie

I really want to go see "Valentine's Day". Can you believe the all-star cast....Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, George Lopez, Julia Roberts and Taylor Swift (just to name a few).

The movie shows how love was approached from different angles and different generations - from the 10-year old boy with his first crush, to the thirtysomethings dealing with their relationship, all the way to the older married couple looking back at their journey of love they have taken together.

I'm a sucker for a good love story type of movie!

Now, my problem is this....1) fiance doesn't typically enjoy these types of movies 2) I'm sure the movie theatre is going to be packed all weekend with couples celebrating valentine's day 3) the reviews from this movie have been horrible (see below).

  • The Chicago Sun said "Valentine's Day is being marketed as a Date Movie. I think it's more of a First-Date Movie. If your date likes it, do NOT date that person again. And if you like it, there may not be a second date"

  • The New York Times said "This might not be the Titanic of romantic comedies (it’s tugboat size), but it’s a disaster: cynically made, barely directed, terribly written. But quick: there’s still time to escape!"

  • USA Today said "The film feels as calculatedly sentimental as one of those bland pink candy hearts."

What's a girl to do??? I guess I could always wait until it comes out on video.

I Heart Damask

As you all know I love anything and everything with the damask print. Check out these dresses I found at Macy's....and they are clearance!!!

Groundhog Day

German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on Feb. 2 — the Christian holiday of Candlemas — winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.

Wouldn't you know it, the world's most famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, emerged to see his shadow, a sign meaning winter will last another six weeks.

Normally this would upset me...even anger me. But I have to admit, we Michiganders have had a pretty mild winter compared to years past. We have consistently had snow on the ground, but nothing too devastating. Granted, we did have that blizzard in December and quite the snow storm after Christmas, but overall I think we have had it pretty easy.

I'm convinced it's because I went out and bought a snow blower this year. I believe I have out-smarted Ole Man Winter :)
